Meaning of Axitinib:
A drug used to treat advanced renal cell carcinoma (the most common type of kidney cancer). Axitinib is used in patients who have not gotten better with other anticancer drugs. Axitinib blocks the action of proteins called growth factor receptors and may prevent the growth of new blood vessels that tumors need to grow. It is a type of tyrosine kinase inhibitor and a type of antiangiogenesis agent. Also called Inlyta. Axitinib is also being studied in the treatment of other types of cancer.
